Threesome + Dr. Ruth

In the first half, Dmae talks with the cast (Alia Attallah, Dominic Rains, Quinn Franzen) of Threesome by Yussef El Guindi at Portland Center Stage about the three-way dynamics of an Egyptian couple and a relative stranger. Then Dr. Ruth, famed sex therapist, joins us as envisioned by veteran actress Wendy Westerwelle in Triangle Productions’ Becoming Dr. Ruth directed by Donald Horn.

Leila and Rashid, Egyptian Americans with ties to Cairo, attempt to solve their relationship issues by inviting a relative stranger into their bedroom to engage in a threesome. What begins as an comedic awkward evening soon becomes an experience fraught with secrets, raising issues of sexism, possession and independence. Originally workshopped at JAW, 2013, Threesome.

Karola Ruth Siegel is more than just “Dr. Ruth.” Everyone knows Dr. Ruth Westheimer from her career as a pioneering radio and television sex therapist. Few know her incredible journey that began with her fleeing the Nazis in the Kindertransport; joining the Haganah in Jerusalem as a scout and sniper; and struggling to succeed as a single mother coming to America. Becoming Dr. Ruth shows us — with honesty and humor — all the ways Ruth Westheimer is an inspiration to us all. Starring Wendy Westwelle as Dr. Ruth, Triangle productions! is pleased to be presenting the Oregon premiere of this wonderful one woman show.
